Colorado Events for Weekend June 22-23, 2013

9News.com reported on the top 9 things to do in Colorado this weekend. Tons of fests, festivals, showcases and tours. No one should be bored living in this great state this weekend.

There's also the Hanmadang Tae Kwon Do national tournament in Colorado Springs that of course wouldn't get much, if any, publicity.

And, there will be a baseball tournament at every lot with four bases and dirt.

But, my favorite activity of the weekend will be picking up my daughter from her first week away from home at camp.  Can hardly wait to hear what new experiences she had. And, I'm betting she great a couple of inches too.

Strange Weather Today in South Denver

Today I was in the Parker area and my cell phone lost its juice so I couldn't take a picture of the odd cloud formations this afternoon. First, it poured for about 10 minutes. Then the sun came out. Then the real clouds came in and the tornado watches started to appear over the radio.

Bunches of big cotton balls in the sky. That's what the clouds looked like. Lightening took over with some thunder, but the big rain never came. Maybe they hit out east more.

One of the big misconceptions about Colorado is that it's always snowing in the winter and always bright and sunny in the summer. Well, the winter part is definitely not true. The summer part isn't too far off. It's definitely sunny here 28 out of 30 days every month. But, we'll get these odd patterns of days where there's a guaranteed thunder storm with lightening around 4pm.

Up until about 10 years ago, those daily t-storms would have rain....downpours of rain with them. But, these days, we don't seem to get the moisture, just lightening.

Getting Writing Inspiration from Starbucks in Woodland Park Colorado

Here's my view of beautiful Pike's Peak while sitting at a table in a Starbucks in Woodland Park Colorado. If you can't gain incentive and inspiration to write here, you might as well pack up your computer and give it away to someone.

Colorado is a great place to get inspiration. All you have to do is drive up to the mountains and find a back road by a stream or go to some mountain town with electricity and surely you'll find an internet connection and an outlet. Actually, now that I think about it, I've been on several mountain tops and able to get a cell phone connection and Internet connection too.

Sometime soon, I'll go into the mountains and record a video of something and upload it to this blog and post it. Isn't technology wonderful?

Colorado Wild Fires are Ablazing!

This is sure not a pretty site for anyone who lives, knows of someone who lives in or has traveled to Colorado. We now have 4 major fires burning that I know of and we're only half way through the heated month of June.

The houses burning are no trailer trash, easy-to-replace flats. They're multi-million dollar custom homes with some amazing properties and vistas. We're almost used to hearing about mountain fires but who would have thought such a devastating fire would break out like the one in Black Forest between Castle Rock and Colorado Springs?

The south has their tornadoes. The east has its hurricanes. The northeast has its snow (because it just doesn't snow here at all practically anymore) and well, I guess we have to have some piece of the rotten pie. So, we'll take the fires I suppose.

Life in Colorado is great but these Colorado wild fires to seem to be hold us back a bit these days.
